Since 1987, Amity has been adhering to the working principles of people first, sustainable development, gender equality, and respect for local culture, to meet the basic needs of people, to establish and to improve community development, cooperation, and sharing mechanisms, and to promote the sustainable development of community economy, society, culture, and nature. Further, under the guidance of the International Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response, Amity has been devoted to carrying out disaster prevention, disaster reduction, emergency relief, and post-disaster reconstruction work based on the needs of people, with a focus on enhancing the resilience of the affected areas. The program covers regions such as Guizhou, Yunnan, Shaanxi, Guangxi, Hunan, Sichuan, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, Shanxi, Jiangsu and Fujian, and overseas countries including North Korea, Kenya, the Philippines, Nepal, Ecuador, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, etc. Up to now, more than 10 million people have benefited from the program.
In 2020, the Amity community development and disaster management team managed 64 projects (excluding the anti-COVID-19 operation), covering five foreign countries and 81 counties in 24 provinces in China, benefiting over 170,000 people.
During the flood season, Amity raised donation from five Internet platforms including Tencent, Alipay, and Sina Weibo, and with the support of Amity Foundation Hong Kong successfully applied for the Disaster Relief Fund (totaled HKD 7,999,000) from Hong Kong SAR Government. Total fund raised exceeded RMB 9 million. With the donation, Amity provided emergency assistance to the disaster-stricken people in 35 counties and districts in nine provinces including Jiangxi, Anhui, and Guizhou.
Aligning with the government’s poverty alleviation target, Amity actively participated in the paired work to support Yutian Village of Zhenxiong County and Xiaxin Village of Huize County in Yunnan Province. Amity carried out the Residential Environment Construction project and the Love Supermarket project, benefiting 11,877 people. For 1,000 families living in difficulties in Guannan County of Lianyungang, Amity donated home appliance packages valued RMB 600,000. In addition, Amity responded to the “Liangshan Joint Action” of China Charity Alliance to care for children in need in Liangshan area.
