Amity Foundation, an independent Chinese social organization, founded in 1985 on the initiative of Chinese Christians led by Bishop K.H. Ting and joined by people from all walks of society, works to promote education, public health, social welfare, community development, environmental protection, disaster relief and other philanthropic undertakings in China and other parts of the world. Amity projects have benefited more than ten million people at home and abroad.
The Amity Foundation is committed to empowering people through a culture of six Cs or three hearts 三心 and three strengths 三力. Our project management follows a model of three participations, the principle of three shares, and the objective of three beneficiaries. Our staff is dedicated to our organization’s cultural paradigm of virtue.
On December 20, 1984, Bishop K. H. Ting wrote a circular letter to ‘friends abroad’ to solicit their opinion on the creation of an organization for social welfare initiated by Chinese Christians. Four months later, on 18 April 1985, the Amity Foundation was founded in Nanjing. Today, Amity’s staff has grown to nearly 90 professionals working at the Headquarters and almost 1,000 staff in total.
Over the past years, the Amity Foundation’s funding has changed significantly. Nowadays, about 90% of the funds are raised within Mainland China of which 65% are online donations. After receiving ecumenical support by our partners for decades, the Amity Foundation is now able to share resources while enhancing its own financial diversification, independence, and sustainability.
