General Secretary Ms Ling Chun Xiang Attends the ACT Alliance and is Elected to the Board of Directors
In the Fourth General Assembly of the ACT Alliance, which closed on 1st November, 2024, representatives from member organizations voted on nominations for new board members and elect the new board. General Secretary Ms Ling Chun Xiang of Amity Foundation was elected as a board member.
The Fourth General Assembly of the ACT Alliance took place in Yogyakarta, Indoniesia, from 28th October to 1st November, attended by over 300 representatives from over 100 countries and 114 member organizations. The schedule of the five-day assembly was packed: the Deliberative Assembly approved members’ rules and regulations, amended the Articles of Association, set the election process, issued public statements and conducted the election for the board of directors, and at the same time held numerous in-depth and professional theme days, featuring conversations with nine groups of members and calling regional member meetings.
Amity Foundation General Secretary Ms Ling Chun Xiang led the Amity Foundation representatives to attend the entire General Assembly. She was also elected to the new Board of Directors of the ACT Alliance. After being elected, she sincerely thanked the ACT Alliance members for their trust and approval of Amity Foundation. She indicated that she would work hard to fulfill her post, to give an active voice as representative of an Asian member organization in the international board. In addition, this general assembly allowed the Amity Foundation representatives who attendance to understand, up close, the inner workings of an international organization, and experience the dynamics of different cultures and inter-cultural communications. They also were able to actively interact with and talk to numerous Alliance member organizations to explore and strengthen opportunities of cooperation.
The active participation of youth representatives is one focus of the General Assembly. On 26th and 27th October, 33 youth representatives from Asia, Africa, the Americas and Pacific Islands arrived at Yogyakarta, and discussed the general assembly’s main agenda before the start of the General Assembly, with an emphasis on the active purpose and methods of participation of the youth representatives at the Assembly. Amity Foundation also sent young staff as youth representatives to attend the entire assembly.
The ACT Alliance is a consortium of organizations involved in humanist and developmental work. There are currently over 150 member organizations, spread out over more than 120 countries and regions worldwide. Amity Foundation is one of the founding organizations. Alliance membership meetings are held once every six years, and are grand events for ACT Alliance member organizations to periodically share and communicate among one another. At such events, representatives from all over the world conduct discussions and decisions based around the strategic direction, charter and management structure and other related issues.
